Do you think that the polish language is impossible to learn?
Polish is more logical than you might think! When you look at the Polish days of the week they look very difficult at first, But there is an interesting logic to them…
➀ poniedziałek (Monday)
➁ wtorek (Tuesday)
➂ środa (Wednesday)
➃ czwartek (Thursday)
➄ piątek (Friday)
➅ sobota (Saturday)
➆ niedziela (Sunday)
Let me start with the last one... ➆ NIEDZIELA is just a day off, public holiday, no one supposed to work, since Poland is a catholic country. Nie pracować = Nie działać (not work) The day after Sunday is ➀ PONIEDZIAŁEK. Po = after Sunday = Niedziela What follows is ➁ WTOREK (Tuesday)… The second day of the week, second = wtóry (drugi). This is in every Slavic language (Russian - вторник, Czech - úterý) Just after wtorek comes ➂ ŚRODA (Wednesday), who falls exactly in the middle of the week, środek = middle. And then we have ➃ CZWARTEK, the fourth day of the week. cztery = four, czwarty = fourth Then follows ➄ PIĄTEK, the fifth day of the week. Between Friday and Sunday is ➅ SOBOTA, the Polish name of this day derives from the Jewish day of rest, Sabbath.
This is pretty logical, isn’t it?
